Witch Gift

“You can’t be serious? You want to bail now?” Jesus paused, taking another sip of his drink. “We’re not leaving till we figure out what flipped us. It’s gotta be something around here. Remember those crepes we had right after we landed? Maybe that’s the missing piece.”

Karol rolled her eyes, her frustration visible. “Babe, I highly doubt the crepes were magical. Whatever switched us, we can’t control it. We need to get back to reality. We’re already four days over our vacation; our jobs are gonna start freaking out.”

Jesus wasn’t having it. He gulped down his meal, trying to outpace Karol using her own body. Standing abruptly, he strode to the counter to settle the bill, his movements exaggerated and slightly clumsy in her shorter frame. Karol couldn’t help but chuckle at the sight, realizing for the first time just how petite she looked from the outside. Trailing behind him as he strode out of the restaurant, she wished she could scoop him up and carry him around.

Stepping into the glaring sunlight, Karol’s tone sharpened without intention. “So, what’s the grand plan, Mr. ‘I-Know-Exactly-How-To-Fix-This’? We’ve basically redone our entire vacation and we’re still stuck like this.”

Jesus marched on, his gaze locked on the bustling street ahead. Her booming voice seemed to break his stride, and his shoulders tensed. “Aren’t you even a bit freaked out? Suddenly you’re carrying around a dick in a foreign country and you’re all jokes? Help me!” he blurted, his voice cracking.

Karol’s heart softened. She reached out, her hand trembling as she pulled him close for a kiss, which he returned, although feebly.

Little did Jesus know, Karol had a secret. She’d had a compelling reason to visit this particular Mexican town—a connection through a family friend to a commune of witches who were said to assist those in peculiar binds. She’d sneaked out to meet them the very first night. By morning, their reality had turned upside down. The spell, she knew only affected the surrounding area; leaving town would break it. Now, she just needed Jesus to agree to head home.
